Selfie-editing App Based on Machine Learning

R-Style Lab developed an iOS face-morphing app for a well-known plastic surgeon who runs his own practice and studies cell technologies. Our customer wanted to create an app similar to ModYourBod and Lift/Tuck to enable patients to see what they would look like after a plastic surgery or simply enhance images they share on social media. The plastic surgeon only had the app idea and a custom neural networks library, and was looking for a full-cycle software development company with previous AI experience.

Solution

The neural networks library processes images uploaded to the app, identifies face parts and applies transformations. In order to achieve face morphing effects and perform the overall image correction, our team implemented the OpenGL library. It utilizes a smartphone’s GPU to render images at a speed of 60 frames per second.

We also created custom filters which allow users to edit selfies and smoothly apply enhancements to tilted and angled head positions, selfies with open mouth, and other animate snaps. R-Style team complemented the solution with a stylish promotional website.

The key features of the Glamozis face morphing app include:

  • Registration module;
  • Demo and advanced paid versions of the app with extra filters;
  • Face swap effects enabling users to edit certain parts of a face (including jaw or facial bones enlargement and reduction) and perform overall face correction;
  • Custom filters which do not distort image background and allow users to enhance real-life photos;
  • Custom module which enables users to create before/after collages and save pics to a camera roll;
  • Social media integration.

The app is available on the App Store and monetized through in-app purchases.
