Our customer – a US media company that publishes sport news and live competition scores referred by and distributed across popular portals such as The New York Times and BBC – addressed R-Style Lab to enhance the functionality of their Drupal website. Among the key objectives of the project were continuous performance and content portability optimization, as well as migration of the solution to a new more efficient infrastructure on Microsoft Azure.
To help our customer meet their business objectives, we started with cache, Drupal core and Drupal modules optimization. Additional efforts were made to enable seamless Drupal content assets delivery with Azure CDN and steady up the performance of data caching modules and MySQL. Furthermore, we enhanced the website’s back-end logic to introduce several changes to the admin dashboard, thus enabling marketers to produce and aggregate content faster.
The R-Style Lab team went on to optimize the representation of real-time sports data gathered from external resources. The live scores ingested via 3rd-party APIs were then processed to be displayed as distinctive easily noticeable site-wide custom tournament boards. Finally, R-Style Lab enabled automated website testing to detect performance and security issues, and generate alert notifications to website admins.
The key features of the end product include:
After being refactored, the solution is capable of withstanding high database loads with daily traffic spikes reaching more than 12 000 users during the final stages of popular international contests. R-Style Lab has also ensured fault-free caching to eliminate any data loss and deliver up-to-date content to website visitors.
