The R-Style Lab corporate website was previously hosted on GoDaddy. Despite the hosting’s reliability and robust functionality, the lack of Docker Virtualization — as well as the overheads associated with starting and maintaining virtual machines — prompted us to look for another cloud server solution.

Solution

Having considered multiple options, we settled on an Amazon EC2 virtual machine and S3 buckets for storage. As our website uses the LAMP stack, we deployed it via the AWS Elastic Beanstalk to achieve greater scalability and routed the incoming traffic through the Cloudflare network to optimize the delivery of web pages to our global customer base and mitigate DDoS attacks.

Other tools and technologies we made use of include:

  • Ansible (a top-notch IT engine for automatic application deployment, configuration management and cloud provisioning).
  • Grafana (an advanced analytics platform that visualizes key website metrics, alerts the tech team on server downtime and automatically remediates system flaws).
  • ELK stack (minus Kibana as Grafana turned to be a more flexible and cost-effective solution; the Elasticsearch engine allows us to secure data and enhance its availability, while Logstash facilitates data parsing and processing).

Being a customer-centric company, the R-Style Lab team wanted to improve server response time and future-proof the website. Thanks to a detailed migration plan, optimum technology stack choice and strict adherence to cloud migration best practices, we managed to reduce response time from 2.1 seconds to just 0.7 seconds.
